Each year, Sigma Kappa Kappa Mu Chapter at Duquesne participates in various events both on and off campus that benefit our five philanthropies: Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Maine Seacoast Mission, Gerontology and Alzheimer's Disease. Throughout these events, the sisters of Sigma Kappa not only support our philanthropies, but come together to strengthen our sisterhood.
In the spring, we hold an annual event called Cut Out Alzheimer's, which provides haircuts for just $10 and a variety of gift cards that can be raffled. In 2018, we raised over $900 to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Additionally, every month, our chapter visits a nursing home and participates in crafts and activities with the residents, to contribute to our focus on gerontology.
In the fall, our philanthropic events include our annual Ultra Violet event and our participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer's. This year, Kappa Mu chapter held Sigma Stacks, an Ultra Violet Challenge event including stacking games and selling pancakes, which benefitted the Sigma Kappa Foundation. In our fundraising for the Walk to End Alzheimer's, Kappa Mu set a chapter record by raising over $11,200 and becoming the second highest fundraising team in all of Pittsburgh.
Finally, Sigma Kappa Kappa Mu holds our annual Week of Giving before Founder's Day, which ultimately benefits the Maine Seacoast Mission and reaches out to various organizations on campus for collaborative philanthropic efforts. Sigma Kappa at Duquesne values philanthropy as part of our values, and plans to continue making a difference in the lives of others.
